Sometimes we get to a cross roads in life, when you feel dead inside. We can feel in our heart that to continue doing what we’re currently doing will bring despair and unhappiness… and yet we have no idea what we would like to do differently.
You know that continuing to feed yourself the same old things- words, actions, thoughts, food, excuses, isn’t going to change the way you feel. As long as you continue to keep busy in the same routine, you are robbing yourself of the experience of tuning in to true inner happiness. We all have periods in our lives when we feel like there simply is not enough time to do the things we really want to do. Truth be told: we always have time to do what we want to do… time doesn’t really exist. All that exists is NOW.
The best gift you can give yourself at these moments is space and permission to discover what it is that makes your heart sing. Consider taking a little soul vacation.
Create a vision of where you want to go, what you’d like to do, what makes your heart and soul leap for joy. Then bring into your life tastes of what it is you’d like to be… what you want to grow into
We can choose who and what to be and do NOW. The big pile of laundry can wait 5 minutes for you to daydream a little. Facebook will still be there after you go for a walk. You can do deep breathing exercises, stomach crunches (just tense your stomach muscles and then release and repeat) or Kegel exercises on your way to work to get your body, mind and spirit to the place where you’d like to be. These are all little tastes of how you can bring what you want your life to be like into your day NOW.
Giving yourself permission to tune in to what you want is an important first step.
How to determine what makes you happy includes giving yourself some time to play. Literally playing outside and getting into that place of joy is the perfect state to be in to brainstorm what your heart would like more of in your life. You can browse magazines, and create a wish box. You can make a vision list and write down all of the things you want to bring into your life. You can explore Pinterest and make a virtual vision board.
Get present to what makes you happy. When you have this in your awareness, a beautiful snow ball effect starts to happen, as you begin to notice more and more things in your everyday life that make you happy.
And when you are present to this happiness and what you want to bring into your life, you begin to notice more and more opportunities for you to bring those experiences into your life.
So, where to go from here:
Give yourself permission to dive in and discover what makes you happy.
Allow the time to tune in to what brings joy into your heart.
Create a vision for what you’d like to see your life and tune in to how that makes you feel.
Notice the times throughout the day when that feeling shows up for you.
Be open to ideas and opportunities to take you closer to that vision.
