There comes a time when you simply feel like there is meant to be more to life. Something in your current situation has you dissatisfied with the results you are seeing and you know deep down inside that you are capable of more. Perhaps you’re saying to yourself, “Life is supposed to be juicier than this! There are other people living amazing lives and I know I deserve it too!” The trick is, you need to discover what it is that you truly want. And this goes beyond the material things in life.
Here are 5 soul searching questions to ask yourself to get more out of life:
What makes me happy, and why? While this may be a simple question it will yield deep results. Especially as you begin to ask the question “why” after each response. To get started, simply write down a few things that make you happy. It could be the look on a customer’s face when you’ve helped them. Or figuring out a puzzle that no one else could solve. And after you’ve written down a few, start to write why that activity or experience or thing makes you happy. This is a good place to start.
What am I good at, and what comes naturally to me? This should come fairly easily especially after you’ve already looked at what makes you happy and why. Take inventory of the amazing talents and skills you have. It’s nice to give yourself a pat on the back and appreciate what you already do well.
What have I always wanted to do? Make a list of these things — everything from sky diving to walking the Great Wall of China, to singing in an acapella group — write everything that’s on your bucket list here. And then again, ask the question Why.
How can I give back to the world? Helping others brings joy and fulfillment to our lives. Whether you decide to volunteer your time to help build a school in Africa, make a donation to a charity, or create a life-saving device, consider how you can combine the answers from above to see how you can give back to the world.
How do I want to make a difference in other people’s lives? Everything we do is part of a huge energetic ecosystem. What we do impacts others. Consider how you want to impact other people’s lives as you do what makes you happy, what you’re good at and what you’ve always wanted to do.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more questions you will ponder on your journey. Starting here will help you know where to go next.
To get the most out of this inner questioning, consider some soul searching activities that may get you into a really deep and connected frame of mind like:
