The Winter Solstice is celebrated in the Northern Hemisphere on December 21st, the shortest day of the year. It is the ideal time of energy clearing, reflection and connection.
This time of year welcomes in the Divine Feminine energy. As the days get longer and brings more light, it invites us to awaken the Divine Feminine within.
Although this time of year the general public tends to focus on Christmas, a lot of the traditions we do at Christmas ties in to Pagan heritage- everything from the red white and green colour scheme to the Yule Log (it wasn’t originally a cake!)
To keep things simple, let us focus on the energy of this time of year. And I want to shed some light on why you may be feeling the way your are feeling.
Between winter solstice and the Full Moon many portals of energy open up and the veils between the Spiritual world and the earthly plane we focus our energy on, get thin. So you may be receiving more downloads, feel flighty or ungrounded; you may feel irritable, or even have a desire to withdraw from it all. And this is all perfectly normal at this time of year.
Instead of fighting this, let’s embrace the energies that are present with a simple Winter Solstice ritual, to experience on the shortest day of the year.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Candle
Metal bowl or a fire place or fire pit- somewhere you can safely burn and dispose of burned paper.
Paper
Pen
Darkness
Find a place where you can sit comfortably and safely in darkness for a short meditation and reflection. And then be able to light a candle and write down some insights and what you are letting go of. You’ll also need to be prepared to burn what you are letting go of and dispose of it safely.
On December 21st (if you live in the southern Hemisphere you’ll do this ritual on June 21st) give yourself the space of some alone time- at least 15-20 minutes.
Take 5 to 10 minutes alone in the dark and quiet – if you are indoors, see if there is a way you can bring some nature in to you- like some pine cones or pine bows, or even a plant- just bring some nature into the experience.
Meditate on these words (simply read it and then sit in silence):
In the darkness and quiet, I find myself and connect with all that is. I welcome in the knowledge and insight from the past and present to embrace what the future has for me. I Awaken my Divine Feminine Essence.
If you find your mind wandering, simply bring your attention back to nature and your breath.
When you feel complete in your meditation, light your candle and write down any insights you received or inspirations of what you are going to achieve in the incoming year.
On a separate page, write down what you are letting go of to be able to achieve your goals. Burn this paper in the fire. Or if fire is not available, then you can rip it into little bits and bury it in the ground or put it in a compost pile for it to be transmuted back into earth.
Take a moment to sit with this energy.
Conclude with “thank you, thank you, thank you”
Be gentle on yourself for the rest of the evening~
