Little things going on in the background drain our energy more than we realize.
This morning, I sat down to meditate and could hear an air vent loose, and rattling. I closed my eyes for about 10 seconds, thinking I could just ignore it, but I knew I couldn’t. I needed to take the 10 seconds to walk across the room and tap it into place, so I could begin my meditation.
Ahh… that’s better.
It’s a little thing, but surprising it drains my energy so much. I became present to it a while ago when I noticed that even thought I was having a productive day, I was feeling tense and on edge. The vent had been vibrating in the background all day, and I was too lazy to go fix it. As soon as I did, my energy shifted. That was all I needed to do to feel more at ease.
Think about how this may apply to your life. Is there an unsaid conversation that you’ve been delaying, but you’ve been playing over and over in your head, distracting you from really focusing at the task at hand?
Is there something nagging on your to do list that you’ve been delaying, because you’ve made up a story of how complicated it is going to be?
Do you keep your to do list in your head instead of writing it down, making it so you feel overwhelmed, because you don’t want to forget anything, and you also need your full attention to get stuff done?
All of these common little things drain our energy.
And then we get surprised when we’re so worn out at the end of the day. It often isn’t just what we’ve done, but what we haven’t done and the emotions we carry around that “not doing” that drains us the most.
What is something simple that you can take care of right now, that will open up so much more energy in your life?
