How to Follow Through on What you Know: 3 Keys
Have you ever had someone you really admire come to you for advice or guidance? Someone who you thought may know “more” than you? As an intuitive and energy healer, I have had the privilege of helping people from many walks of life on their spiritual journey. Sometimes I’m really surprised at who needs some extra support. As we talk,I share the intuitive guidance I receive. Admitting they “already knew that,” yet simply were not following through, they didn’t know how to follow-through. This is something I relate to.
It was only recently that I really began to understand why we go through peaks of being really in the flow of life and valleys of uncertainty. It all became quite clear.
First, I want to assure you, that even though you know something, the fact that you don’t follow through all of the time is a perfectly normal experience for a human being. These contrasts help you to get clearer on what it is you want in life.
Reach for a Higher Vibration
The reason why you may not follow-through on practices, actions, or creating habits intent on helping you flow through life more gracefully, is simply because your vibration is not at a level where you can easily bring these activities into being.
David Hawkins, M.D, Ph.D. a nationally renowned psychiatrist, physician, researcher, spiritual teacher and lecturer, created a “map” of the levels of human consciousness that uses applied kinesiology to document the spiritual realm. According to his research, the average human being is at a vibration of around 200. Many of the activities and teachings you “know” that can support you in whatever you do, vibrate at a higher level, so you need to make an effort to REACH for these teachings to re-implement them in your life.
For example, if you have fear about something in particular, at that moment when you are present to that emotion, you are vibrating at around 100. It’s no wonder that joyful practices like appreciation and gratitude don’t come into your awareness, because the vibration of that state of being is so much higher than 100, that you simply can’t “see it” with where you are currently standing. It’s very much like trying to find organic produce in the junk food aisle- it just isn’t there.
The good news is, that since you’ve experienced these practices and teachings before, you know the way to that happier place of a higher vibration. Just like when you go grocery shopping, you know how to steer your cart to the produce section to find what you’re looking for. You almost feel a sense of relief, as you approach this section and feel the living energy of the food. And when you start to re-implement the higher vibration practices, you easily and effortlessly move back into that high vibing place of being.
Surround yourself with friends and tools to stay on track
The best thing you can do to help yourself stay on track is to create a regular daily practice to support you in moving forward. Surround yourself with friends, tools and resources that can easily bring you back on track when you stumble. When you have people and resources around you that are in alignment with where your going its easier to stay on track. For instance, if you are quitting smoking, then hang out with non smokers and you’ll be more likely to succeed.
Make it easy
In Positive Psychology Professor, Shawn Achor’s book The Happiness Advantage He talks about the 20 second rule – how to turn bad habits into good ones by minimizing the barriers to change.
If you really want to be successful with implementing a new habit, you want it to be as easy as possible – get rid of any obstacles in the way. For me I created a habit of going to the gym 4 x a week at 6am by getting everything ready (my clothes, my gym bag, my water bottle, even pulling out my travel tea mug) the night before, so I just need to get dressed and out the door. If I had to stumble around in the dark to find my clothes, I would have used that as an excuse to not do it.
Fundamentally, to be successful in creating new habits, you need to believe in yourself and in your own potential for you to truly live a high vibing life.
