I don’t think there is one particular way to search your soul. It’s different for each person. I think that the hardest thing for people as they get started is that they don’t know how to start. And interestingly enough, that is why most people don’t find what they are looking for whether it’s a physical object or the meaning of life.
The biggest piece of advice I haveto help you get started on this journey is to surrender to the process. Whatever it is that has got you pondering this question, just surrender. If it’s a job loss, give yourself permission to figure out what you want to do when you grow up and actually make time to do this. If you or someone you love have been diagnosed with a serious health issue, give yourself permission to discover how you can live with optimal health. If you just have no clue what to do with your life, give yourself the space to understand and tune in to what makes your heart sing.
Then get started. You don’t even need to know how to get started — just surrendering, declaring that you are opening your life up to new possibilities is all you need to do. Then the synchronicities will start to show up. A book may fall off the shelf in the library. Or a friend may invite you to a party where you meet the most incredible person. Or you see an ad in a magazine for a course or a workshop that just jumps out at you. Simply be open to the experience and see what comes your way.
Here are some soul searching tips to get you started:
Be open and receptive. It’s almost like being on a treasure hunt and you’re looking for little clues for where to go next.
If you’re not sure of something, wait until you get the same clue 3 times. Perhaps a book falls of the shelf and you noticed it and put it back. Then a friend tells you that they are reading that book. They you see a book review for that same book — that’s a sign for you to start there.
Breathe. It can seem overwhelming when you are diving in to anything new. There is no rush. There is no timetable for when you need to be done by. The truth is, you’ll never be done soul searching, it’s your personal soul connection that deepens the more you discover about yourself and life.
You decide what is right for you. There are lots of perspectives out there and it can be challenging to wade through. You get to decide what is true for you. For example, some people find painting difficult, while others seem to have a natural talent for it. It’s the same activity, but just different perspectives from different people. Then of course there are various types of paint: acrylic, water colour, oils. You get to decide what is true and right for you. Just remember, other people get to decide for themselves too.
Write it down. Writing down your questions, your discoveries and your insights is an important soul searching exercise. Going back to read what you wrote is also important. It’s valuable too see where you’ve come from and how you’ve grown.
As you venture down your path searching for soul, be gentle on yourself. You are at the perfect place at the perfect time. All is well and as it should be. And if you are at a crossroads and you need some help, then pray, ask the universe, or even Facebook for help — you’ll be sure to get lots of answers. 😉
